Department of Hungarian Construction Material Manufacturers is established

It is impossible to improve the efficiency of the construction industry without rapid expansion and further modernization of domestic building material production.

During the implementations in Hungary, the construction industry currently uses almost 50% of imported products, as it is not possible to obtain sufficient domestically produced goods in either volume or selection. In response to this, the Department of Hungarian Construction Material Manufacturers was established within the framework of the National Federation of Hungarian Building Contractors (ÉVOSZ).

At the inaugural meeting of the Department, the need for the development of domestic building material production and a closer co-operation of raw material manufacturers, design and construction companies were expressed as needs.

Dávid Tibor, CEO of MASTERPLAST Nyrt. was elected to the presidency of the Department.

David Tibor, assessing the situation of domestic building material production, said that closer cooperation between the subsectors is needed. Currently, the construction industry counts approx. 8,500, mostly small, companies in the building materials industry and 400 more in the mining sector. A conscious development of this sector is a major challenge.

In the domestic building materials industry, 30% of the total production is provided by the production of metal structures and building components, and the production of concrete, gypsum and cement products is equal to 18%. The other branches of production share the other 50%.

Within total production, the revenue of companies with Hungarian ownerships makes up 46% of the building materials industry’s total sales revenue, while the sales revenue of foreign-owned enterprises constitutes the remaining 54%. A strategical objective is to expand the proportion of the domestic ownership.

David Tibor highlighted that among the domestic construction manufacturers the companies with Hungarian ownership own less capital than the firms with international backgrounds. In order to be able to fulfill the modern needs, the companies with Hungarian ownerships need to adopt innovative attitudes and offer new products that can be quickly installed, which also requires investments.

Further development of building material production and increasing the efficiency of the logistics supply chain is one of the important challenges of these modern times.

The objectives of the Department’s operation in connection with the domestic building material production and distribution activities include the following:

  • analysis and evaluation of market processes,
  • making regulatory, support and market control proposals to strengthen the domestic production,
  • strengthening the production culture and the professional training, enhancing joint promotion of the professional integration of products with designers and contractors,

promoting the domestically produced building materials, strengthening of the brand
