Masterplast speeds up thermal insulation manufacturing in Italy

A new manufacturing plant is to launch sooner and with better conditions. 6 September 2022. Sárszentmihály. Masterplast reported reaching a milestone in its Italian subsidiary project regarding manufacturing development investments in thermal insulation material launched in April.

After the general meeting of Masterplast Italia Srl, Masterplast announced to establish its new polystyrene manufacturing plant sooner and with lower costs than planned. This way, production might commence in March 2023, supplying the Italian market through an annual production capacity of 300 000 cubic meters.

In the first half of the year, Masterplast increased its sales by 156% compared to the base in the Italian market, reaching a 9.1 million EUR revenue. Most buildings in Italy are not insulated; therefore, they are of low energy efficiency. Investments in thermal insulation have started to boost in Italy due to the skyrocketing energy prices and a system of tax benefits given for upgrading building energy. To use business opportunities, the company wants to increase its market presence, which is why, in addition to current exports, Masterplast founded a subsidiary in Italy, and, this April, launched a new development investment to manufacture thermal insulation.

The new plant manufacturing polystyrene thermal insulation materials will be established in Calerno, a town in Reggio Emilia county, Italy. Based on the general meeting resolution, Masterplast Italia Srl. will not construct a new manufacturing hall but will sign a long-term rental agreement and place production in an existing industrial hall, reducing investment costs by 2 million EUR and the project timeline by 3 months. The technology supplier has already been chosen, and the parties have agreed on everything; consequently, the new plant might come into operation in March 2023, and sales can also start as soon as the required product certifications have been obtained. The plant, with an annual production capacity of 300 000 cubic metres is to produce 150 000 cubic metres of thermal insulation materials in its first year. According to the company’s forecast, selling all the products manufactured at full capacity may bring additional revenue of 20 million EUR in the Italian market.

“We managed to find a more favourable and efficient way of launching our first Italian thermal insulation manufacturing plant, and by this, we can reduce the investment costs by half and start the production three months sooner. The population of Italy had to face the soaring energy prices earlier, their government could provide special aid through tax benefits, thus building energy upgrades also started earlier. We find the rapidly expanding Italian market of thermal insulation important, therefore we aim to accelerate production and strengthen our position, establishing further dynamic development”, said Masterplast Nyrt. president, Dávid Tibor.
